This is a Stainless Steel Version of the Standard 1/8" x 2" Trailer Cotter Key or Pin used to secure the Axle's Castle nut into position. This device is used on Many different Axles, but not on all Trailer Axles. Some Axles will require a Spindle Nut Cage in place of this item. If your trailer axle has a castellated nut on the end of the spindle, and a small hole in the end of the spindle, then the axle requires a Cotter Pin Like this one.
This Cotter Key is Stainless Steel, meaning it will not rust out, which reduces it's chances of snapping in between uses, so it can often be used longer than a standard steel or zinc plated cotter pin. This Stainless Cotter Pin would do well on any Boat Trailer, or trailers in colder regions that see snow.
