This is a medium length zinc-plated steel boat trailer leaf spring shackle, a crucial component for single axle and tandem axle trailer suspensions utilizing double-eye leaf springs. The zinc finish shackle measures 3 7/8 inches in overall length and features 9/16 inch diameter holes designed to accommodate standard trailer spring bolts. The distance between the center of the mounting holes is 2 5/8 inches. Constructed from 1/4 inch thick zinc-plated steel, this shackle offers enhanced rust and corrosion resistance compared to raw steel alternatives, making it a good choice for cargo trailers, utility trailers, freshwater boat trailers, and other types of land or freshwater use trailers.
In single axle setups (two shackles per side, rear-mounted), a longer shackle increases ride height, while a shorter one lowers it. Conversely, on tandem axle trailers (four shackles per side, center-mounted), a longer shackle lowers ride height, and a shorter shackle raises it. There are several different sizes of shackles available, so you will want to ensure accurate measurement for compatibility with your specific trailer setup.
